Soy Fabric

Soy & Soy ProductsIt's hard to know which natural raw material has more applications, bamboo, hemp or soy. Its hard to believe that something you can eat in so many different forms can also make a fabulous racer back tank. What heck, go with it! Soy, like bamboo is utilized to create a viscose fabric and is usually blended with cotton. You can find it in athletic wear and undergarments as well as t-shirts.

Soy viscose has a range of textures from a rough, almost scratchy knit when blended with Lycra and a smooth, stretchy knit when mixed with cotton and Lycra. It's not as rough as hemp and its not as soft as a bamboo viscose. It makes for a nice, lightweight yet sturdy jersey fabric.

How To Care For Soy Fabric

Experiential washing instructions from Shirtseed are: wash in cold and hang to dry. You won't get a lot of shrinkage with high quality, pre-shrunk fabric even if it accidentally ends up in the dryer. However, if you have one of those crazy high-performance running tops that weigh nothing and stretch to high heaven, keep it as far away from the dryer as possible.
