If bamboo is the wonder-grass then Hemp is the wonder-plant. It's now even being used in the construction of car parts! Who knew?

As a fabric, its not known for its snuggly softness but the technology of textile making has come a long way. When Hemp is blended with textiles like bamboo it's pretty amazing how soft it can get. You will often find it blended with cotton and organic cotton and this is also quite soft with a very slight bumpy texture in the knits.

It's durable and easy to care for, it holds up well to all kinds of abuse and perhaps that's why it works well for denim products. It's more absorbent and mildew resistant than cotton as well.  It's actually quite astounding hemp did not become a more prevalent raw material in the production of textiles, however politics, cotton subsidies, lobbies and general untruths could have lent to that. We won't mention any powerful nations in particular.

How To Care For Hemp Fabric

Whether it's a t-shirt, jeans, scarf or jacket, tablecloth, curtains bedspread, you name it, it's okay to toss it in the washer and dryer. Hemp is often blended with cotton and follows the same rules for washing. This information is based on personal experience and not on common washing instructions, so if your label says differently take note, it may be blended with something different, or perhaps it wasn't preshrunk.
