Linen Fabric

Linen Fabric Remember that blouse or skirt that was really expensive but you couldn't wear it anywhere because the moment you looked at it, it would crease? That was linen for sure. You don't find linen around that often in clothing anymore for this very practical reason. However times are changing and as the technology for making textiles improves so do the fabrics.

Imagine this, soft pliable knits that feel like cotton jersey that are actually with linen/cotton blends. Imagine that fabric supply chain from seed to yarn right here in Canada. It's enough to make greenies twitch with delight. After all, hemp and flax can be grown here.

One can imagine there are all kinds of implications for commercial hemp fabric that might make it a problematic material to trade in. Naturally Advanced Technologies, the textile tech company, recently switched from Hemp to Flax as a raw material to create their patented fabric Crailar (R). However, they also went from plans for a manufacturing facility here in Saskatchewan to production in the US so it will be interesting to see which direction flax fiber production in North America goes next. One may let their mind wander to the electric car.

Fingers crossed this won't be the outcome because as it stands there are no cool linen clothes on Shirtseed's radar. Please do feel free to read more about Naturally Advanced Technologies. It is yet another company inspired by a native Vancouverite.
